Albuquerque Woodworkers Association (AWA) supplies volunteers to help the New Mexico Ramp Project (NMRP) build ramps for New Mexico families with mobility issues in need of ramps to safely access their homes. NMRP is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that grew out of the framework developed by the Texas Ramp Project and has been working in the state since July 2019. These ramps are provided free of charge to those in financial needs in the state. As of January 2025 over 450 ramps have been built and installed. The project has 6 fabrication shops in the state including one at a warehouse at Builders Materials, 1707 Commercial, in Albuquerque where AWA members meet to build. We meet weekly to build ramp modules and volunteers can attend as often or infrequent as they wish. Occasionally AWA members also meet to install an entire ramp at a home site. The Ramp Project is an excellent way for woodworkers to serve the community, use some basic woodworking skills and interact with some of their friendly fellow AWA members.
